16th-Century Pair of Continental-Spanish Knights Armour Stirrups
16th-Century Pair of Continental-Spanish Knights Armour Stirrups
This rare pair of late 16th-century knights stirrups are Continental Spanish/Portuguese in style. They are hand-forged stirrups, reinforced at the front, the sides and the bottom of the wooden base with steel straps mounted in a heavy band with a suspension loop. The interior is fitted with the original leather lining. These armoured stirrups supported and gave stability to the rider and also crucially protected the feet in battle.
CONDITION: The stirrups are in VERY good condition considering their age. They do have clear dents and original repairs (to the wooden soles) but that is to be expected from 16th-century armour that most certainly would have seen and survived combat action.
MEASUREMENTS: Overall length: 26 cm (10.5 in) Width: 14 cm (5.5 in) Height: 16 cm (6.3 in)
